  Nature Day Camp 2002

In June Parkville Nature Sanctuary hosted two sessions of our popular Nature Day Camp for 15 children ages 8-10 in each session. Children ages 11-12 that had attended day camp in the past assisted in mentoring the day campers.
The day camp was lead by Jim Reed, Director of PNS. Dianne Kixmiller designed the curriculum. Erwin Carney and Walt Morris helped the children build wooden bird feeders.
Highlighting the two sessions were guest programs. Susan Macdonald Bray, naturalist with Lakeside Nature Center exhibited an opossum, western fox snake and great horned owl and taught about the habitat, anatomy and diet of each animal. Jim Hawes, volunteer naturalist from Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center, brought a black rat snake and box turtle to teach about reptiles. The children were so enthused by these programs that they talked about them for the rest of their time at Nature Day Camp.
