Discussion of Second Hand Smoke:

Following substantial discussion on the health risks of second hand smoke and how to best address the issue, a motion was made and passed by the board of aldermen, by a 4 to 3 vote, to table the issue until coordination with Platte County, MARC (Mid-America Regional Council) and other area entities takes place to provide an area-wide solution.

 

Selection of Firm for Space Analysis Design – City Hall:

There was discussion on the recommendation made by the City Administrator on behalf of the ad hoc committee for the City Hall renovation project.  A motion was made and passed by a 6 to 0 vote to enter into negotiations with Williams, Spurgeon, Kuhl & Freshnock to do a space analysis design for City Hall renovation. 

 

Discussion regarding the English Landing Walking Bridge:

Public Works Director Jeff Rupp provided a policy report that reviewed the background and current status of the English Landing Walking Bridge project.  The report gave a detailed breakdown of change orders and additional expenditures that will be required if the City moves forward with this project.  In light of the grand total for this project having risen to $72,095.00, a motion was made and approved by the board of aldermen by a 7-0 vote to cancel the bridge project and the related contract with Barcus & Sons Inc. and to pay outstanding debts of $12,065.

 

Police Portable Radios Needed:

Police Chief Bill Hudson reviewed the policy report providing explanation on the need for the new portable police radios to replace the current radios that are ten years old and now incompatible with Platte County’s narrow band.  The board authorized the purchase of new police radios at a cost of $8,978.55 by a 7-0 vote.
