Mayor Quitmeier explained that this special meeting was being held without 24-hour notice. The matter to be discussed was considered an emergency because one of our restaurants lost its liquor license when its license holder left the business. It was felt that perhaps the only time to get a quorum of aldermen together to approve a license in the name of a new manager in time for the 4th of July holiday was that night. A number of aldermen were planning to be present for the 5:30 Planning Commission meeting, and some of them would be leaving town shortly thereafter for the holiday. Media were notified of the special meeting and the reason for it.
LIQUOR LICENSE
APPLICATION FOR CAFÉ DES AMIS
The city clerk said the police chief checked the application of the new temporary manager, Joe Heide, former head of Liquor Control for Kansas City, Missouri, and there were no problems that would preclude the issuance of a license. The new license, like the one Café Des Amis held previously, was for the sale of beer and light wine for consumption on the premises, and for Sunday sales. Mr. Heide will be the acting manager of the café until a new partner is in place.
ALDERMAN RITTMAN MOVED TO APPROVE ISSUANCE OF A LICENSE TO SELL BEER AND LIGHT WINE FOR CONSUMPTION ON THE PREMISES TO CAFÉ DES AMIS, AND FOR SUNDAY SALES; ALDERMAN ARNOLD SECONDED; ALL AYE; MOTION CARRIED 6-0.
ALDERMAN FERGUSON MOVED TO ADJOURN; ALDERMAN ARNOLD SECONDED; ALL AYE; MOTION CARRIED.
